Notes

How does a side project avoid quietly dying?

A few notes on scope, motivation, and cutting what does not need to exist yet.

Side projects often start with excitement but end in silence. Here is what I have learned after "giving up" a few times.

1. The Scope Trap

The biggest killer of side projects is over-engineering. We want the perfect architecture, the best tech stack, and all the features.

Instead: Build the smallest thing that provides value.

2. Motivation vs. Discipline

Excitement is a finite resource. When it runs out, discipline takes over. But discipline is hard.

Instead: Make it fun to work on. If it feels like a second job, you will quit.
